In a bold move to uphold integrity in the civil service sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that civil servants who relocated abroad without formally resigning but continued to draw salaries must face consequences. During the media parley celebrating the 2024 Civil Service Week, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation revealed shocking details about employees who had been receiving salaries while living abroad. While she assured that steps had been taken to address this issue, President Tinubu reiterated the importance of holding those responsible accountable.
President Tinubu sternly stated, "We must ensure those responsible are held accountable and restitution is made." He emphasized that culprits must refund the money they received fraudulently and called for the punishment of supervisors and department heads who were complicit in this wrongdoing.

Underlining the significance of a well-functioning civil service, President Tinubu described it as the backbone of the government machinery. He asserted, "The Civil Service is the bedrock, the engine, the locomotive of government, necessary for delivering public goods to citizens. As politicians, we are no more than drivers of the locomotives that you provide."
