Breaking News: Court of Appeal refuses to reverse sack of 25 Rivers lawmakers
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has declined to reverse the removal of Martin Amaewhule and 24 others from their positions as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The Appellate Court expressed that overturning the Federal High Court's decision declaring their seats vacant would be prejudging the ongoing appeal.
During a virtual session, a panel of three judges led by Justice Jimi Bada maintained that overturning the Rivers State High Court's order expelling Amaewhule and the others would amount to prematurely addressing the appeal's concerns at an interim stage.
All parties involved have been instructed to uphold the current status quo and refrain from engaging in any conflicts until the appeal is resolved. The court has set June 20 for the hearing of the appeal filed by Amarwule and others seeking the reinstatement of their seats in the State House of Assembly.
The justices urged all parties to the case to maintain the existing status quo and avoid any confrontations until the case is heard and decided upon.
